“So we have the full name. So the first name, the middle initial, the last name, and any previous names that the student has had. There’s also an application for a social security number … it’s really simple. Just like promise,” says Nicole Andrews, director of financial aid at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
“There’s an income threshold. So for singles it’s 125,000. And I believe it’s 250,000 for married people,” Andrews said.
And he adds that, according to the federal aid website, determining whether you qualify depends on your 2020 and 2021 tax returns.

Applicants could see up to $10,000 erased from their student loans. There is also a detail that some borrowers qualify for double the money.
“If you’ve received a [Pell Grant] at any point in your college career, you’re eligible for up to $20,000,” Andrews said.
“It only pays what I owe. So if you qualify for 20,000, but you only owe 10,000, so it doesn’t pay 20,000, I pay 10,000, right?
“These are all those who took out federal student loans up to and including June 30, 2022. That includes current students, former students, students who graduated years ago and still have student loans,” Andrews said.

According to the federal student aid website, you can fill out an application for student loan relief before the official start of the program.
According to the Department of Education, the early submission of the application is still being considered. Once the program has officially opened, you do not need to apply again.
The plan was announced by President Joe Biden in August and is expected to provide relief to millions of borrowers.
The Student Loan Relief Plan forgives up to $10,000 in federal student loans for people earning less than $125,000 a year or $250,000 for households and up to $20,000 for people who received Pell Grants.
When To Apply For Student Loans
Student loan assistance is limited by the amount of each individual’s outstanding loan. If you have $15,000 in debt and $20,000 in credit, your loans will be forgiven, but you won’t get $5,000 for the balance of the loan you’ve already paid off.
Officials from the Department of Education said that the official launch of the program will take place in October. The application deadline is 31 December 2023.
To complete an application, follow this link here to the White House website. So just scroll down, enter your information and click “submit”.
